Reducing cholesterol: co enzyme q 10 and policosanol as antioxidants

REDUCING CHOLESTEROL: CO ENZYME Q 10 AND POLICOSANOL AS ANTIOXIDANTS

Co enzyme Q
This is a compound produced naturally in our body that is involved in energy production. It is found in the mitochondria of our cells (energy 10 heart saving tips you must follow factories) and is required for the formation of ATP; our cells' major energy source. Co enzyme Q 10 is a powerful antioxidant boosts the immune system and increases energy levels. Our body manufactures Co enzyme Q 10 in the same pathway that it manufactures cholesterol. Therefore, the cholesterol lowering drugs called statins inhibit the production of Co Q 10 in our body. It is believed that many of the side effects of cholesterol lowering drugs are actually Co enzyme Q 10 deficiency symptoms. Deficiency of Co Q 10 is strongly associated with congestive heart failure. This occurs when the heart becomes weak and is not able to pump blood around the body efficiently.
If you are taking cholesterol lowering drugs it is essential for you to take a Co Enzyme Q 10 supplement to make up for the loss caused by these drugs. Other benefits of Co Q 10 include the inhibition of blood clot formation, improved outcomes after heart surgery, and its antioxidant abilities, preventing oxidation of cholesterol. One study showed that patients who took a Co Enzyme Q 10 supplement within three days of having a heart attack were much less likely to have another heart attack and chest pain than patients who did not take a supplement. Co Q 10 has the ability to significantly lower blood lipoprotein (a) levels; this is a sticky type of blood fat that is a major risk factor for heart attacks.

Policosanol
This is a dietary supplement produced from alcohols from sugar cane. It appears to be effective at lowering total cholesterol and LDL "bad" cholesterol, as well as raising HDL "good" cholesterol. Most studies done on the effects of policosanol were carried out in Cuba. It is known that policosanol inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the liver. The recommended dose is 10 to 20 milligrams after dinner. Unfortunately this supplement is fairly expensive.
